Our tip for Samnaun:
hiking in summer
Seemingly endless Alpine meadows in the green high valley. Blades of grass and colourful Alpine flowers swaying gently in the breeze. Millennia-old rock formations providing a spectacular backdrop. And at the heart of it all: you. This awe-inspiring landscape awaits you around Smart Hotel in Samnaun. Hiking on 200 kilometres of trails at more than 2,800 metres above sea level – a dream come true.
Cross-border hiking fun
Step by step along high-altitude trails and via ferrata routes, woodland, meadow, or forest paths, to Alpine huts and up to the summits: The area around Samnaun is a hiking paradise for beginners and pros alike. And this paradise even crosses national borders! In hardly any other place is hiking as varied as in the three-country border region where Switzerland, Austria, and Italy meet. Along the way, traditional huts and cosy Alpine restaurants offer refreshments, including Schmuggler-Alm.
Glorious blooms and mountain meadows in Samnauntal valley
When the first rays of spring sunshine touch the valley, countless crocuses transform the meadows into a sea of white and violet blossoms. Soon after, the Samnauntal valley turns a lush green – a real paradise for nature lovers. Around Smart Hotel, you’ll discover an extraordinary variety of plants with over 900 species – some of which grow nowhere else in Switzerland, such as the bear’s ear sanicle. The rare edelweiss also blooms in this region.
Family time in nature
Children want hikes where they can enjoy experiences, burn off energy, and discover something new. The climbing and bouldering park on Mt Alp Trida, for example, offers excitement and fun along the Milbach river. Nine boulders and a climbing wall, all featuring a range of routes, offer the perfect place for little visitors to climb. But fun for the kids doesn’t have to involve climbing. The forests and meadows themselves are an unrivalled adventure playground.
